Why can't I add Data Desk/XL to Excel 2008? Data Desk/XL is an Excel Add-in created with Visual Basic. Microsoft has ceased support for Visual Basic, Data Desk/XL will not work in versions of Excel 2008 or newer. We are investigating a solution to this problem. Please check back for updates. Why can't I view the help files in Windows Vista? Windows Vista no longer supports the help file format used in Data Desk/XL. This will be addressed with the next version of Data Desk/XL. In the interim, you can download a plug-in from Microsoft to view the Data Desk/XL help. To download this plug-in, visit Microsoft's Download Center. What operating systems does Data Desk/XL Pro support? Data Desk/XL can be used with computers running Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later. If you have any problems using DDXL with XP, go to Tools... Options... in the Excel menu bar. Click the security tab in the dialogue window that appears, then click the "Macro Security..." button. In the next window that appears click the Trusted Sources tab and make sure the "Trust all installed add-ins and templates" checkbox is checked. How do I install the Data Desk/XL Pro add-in? The key is that you need to add DDXL to the list of available add-ins in Excel. First, double-click the downloaded DDXL installer and follow the installation instructions. Click Finish when done. Excel 2007 crashes when I attempt to use a DDXL command, or the Names and Columns selection box is blank. There is a known issue with DDXL version 2.0 using Excel 2007 that may cause the program to crash, or result in a blank Names and Columns selection box. To prevent this problem, highlight a range of cells by clicking and dragging your mouse over the cells in the spreadsheet. Do not select entire columns by clicking on the column headers. Version 2.1 of DDXL addresses this issue. |
